NCHS JAZZ NIGHT 2011

NCHS Jazz Ensemble/Combo Information

DATE: Friday, May 6^th

TIME: 6:00 p.m.

PLACE: NCHS Auditorium

 

SCHEDULE:

6:00 – Chiddix Jazz Band

6:25 – NCHS a Cappella groups

6:50 – NCHS Combos

7:15 – West Jazz Choir

7:40 – NCHS Jazz Choir

8:05 – NCHS Jazz Ensemble

 

DESSERTS:

The Jazz Ensemble is responsible for bringing desserts and goodies for people to snack on during the show.  Please bring one pan or plate (2 dozen servings) of cookies, brownies, bars, etc.  Mr. Masterman loves to eat homemade stuff, but store-bought is okay too.

Please deliver your delicious baked goods to the auditorium by 5:45 p.m. 

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

Each year we ask parent volunteers help set up and decorate the auditorium from between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. We are also looking for parents to help serve desserts and drinks in 25-minute shifts throughout the show. Sign up on the back of this sheet and return to Mr. Masterman (hard copy or email – mastermj@unit5.org) if you would like to volunteer. We will coordinate the schedule so that you can watch your student perform.

There is no admission cost for NCHS Jazz Night, but donations will be accepted. Kenny G will not be accepted. Fun will be had by all!

Chucky Cheese's

Hi everyone,

I called Chucky Cheese’s in Bloomington and they said they should be able to seat us all on a first-come-first-serve basis. Let’s plan to all meet there around noon today for pizza, games, and shenanigans…hope to see you there! And don’t forget to bring your whack-a-mole skills!

Herscher Jazz Festival

Hi all,

I sincerely apologize for having to cancel the trip to the Herscher festival today. Unit 5 transportation did not send a bus for us, and after repeated calls to the transportation office and Mr. Green, I was not able to find out what was going on or get a bus for us. I filled out the trip request form in February and turned it in to the Chiddix office, where it gets processed and sent to the transportation department. Normally, I would call the bus garage the week before to confirm, but I had several other emergencies come up this week to deal with, so it did not get done.  I think there must have been a breakdown in the shuffling of paper somewhere along the line.

In lieu of a trip, I asked the kids if they’d like to meet up for lunch at Chucky Cheese’s today at noon and they all cheered, ”YES!!!”. I will be calling to make sure they can accommodate us and will post definite plans on the Chiddix Jazz website (http://cjhsjazz.blogspot.com) and send another email to confirm.

Again, I’m so sorry the trip didn’t happen today. Thank you for your understanding and your support.

·         Set List:

o   Bag’s Groove

§  Soloists – Mason, Brian, Garrett, Hunter/Parker –trading fours

·         Dress:

o   Boys: Dress shirt, tie, dress pants, dress shoes, appropriate color socks

o   Girls: Something dressy and classy (dresses/skirts of appropriate length or pant suits are appropriate)

o   Fedoras are okay but must be removed during our performance.  And unless your name is Sonny Rollins and you’re playing tenor under a downtown NYC bridge after midnight, sunglasses are absolutely prohibited while playing jazz.

·         Bring:

o   Instrument (reeds, valve oil, mutes, etc.)

o   Jazz folder with all music

o   Rhythm section – guitar with cable, sticks, mallets

·         Plan to stay and listen to the NCHS Jazz Ensemble at 6:40!

Performance time for Chiddix Family night on Friday, February 4 is 6:10; call time will be 5:45. We play until 6:25ish and strike/move everything back to the band room; should be done around 6:45.

Please note the change in time for the concert @ Parkside on Tuesday, February 15^th: the new time is 7:30 p.m. Call time will be 7 p.m.

Chiddix Jazz Update

Thursday morning the band will meet at the regular time (7am) and play music in the lobby as students arrive at school. There will be NO REHEARSAL next Tuesday morning (December 21).

The handbook is required reading for all students and parent who are interested in participating this year.
